Documentation and dissemination of the history of Denmark in Greenland and the Arctic

Danish Arctic Institute's film collection

Danish Arctic Institute has a smaller film collection. The collection ranges in terms of material from cine films to VHS tapes and DVD’s and timewise from the 1930s to the present. The content is very mixed with private recordings from the daily life, 2. World War and expedition life in Greenland to documentaries, movies and information films.

The cine films have been deposited at The Danish Film Institute (DFI) and they have digitalized the films and are currently making a part of it available online on there ‘Danmark på Film’ database (https://filmcentralen.dk/museum/danmark-paa-film) under the theme ‘Nordatlanten’, while the rest can be seen at the Videotheque in their Library. For access to the deposited films contact DFI at filmarkivet@remove-this.dfi.dk.

The VHS tapes (a few digitalized) and the DVD’s can be seen here at Danish Arctic Institute by contacting the archive manager (arkiverne@remove-this.arktisk.dk), who can also send a registrant (Excel) of the film collection.
